HEADING INTO A NEW YEAR

As we wrap up 2017 and prepare for some well-deserved time with our friends and family, I hope you know how grateful I am to work with you each day.  I especially appreciate the continued commitment to professionalism that you display as you grow and learn for the benefit of our students.  May you have some fun over the next few weeks and prepare to return in 2018 with energy and enthusiasm!

WELCOME TO BENNIE

Please join me in welcoming Natalie Knaggs as an Instructional Aide!  Natalie will be working with Sandy Artman and the Instructional Aide team as a replacement for Kelly P.  She comes to us with a wealth of experiences in education and we feel fortunate to have her on our team!  If you see Natalie in the halls, please introduce yourself and make her feel welcome!

EVERY MOMENT COUNTS

As we have discussed in the past, please keep in mind that it is critical that we maintain consistency in this week before break.  Of course, many of us are so excited to have time off and have lots of fun plans.  What we know is that some of our students are not looking forward to this time, and the uncertainty that it will bring for them.  Please be sensitive to this by keeping your routine as consistent as possible and being extra patient and understanding this week.  A little structure goes a long way!  Remember the PBIS 4:1 positive reinforcement.  Keep reteaching expectations and providing feedback as needed!

WALKTHROUGHS

This week, I will be finishing the first round of walkthroughs.  So far, I have been successful in observing during the Literacy Block in many classrooms and am so excited by what I have seen.  I look forward to visiting your classroom this week!

MAKE YOUR HEART HAPPY

If you are still reading the blog, good for you!  Feel free to make your heart happy and wear jeans to school all week!

PLAYWORKS

I am so excited to announce that all 3 elementary schools in Allen Park have been selected as recipients of the Recess Implementation Grant from Playworks and the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation!  What this means is that all of our Lunch Aides will be trained through this 2-day training that will engage our adults and students in a positive recess experience!  Click this link for more info on Playworks!  https://www.playworks.org/about/why-play/

WINTER BREAK READING CHALLENGE

It’s that time again!  Materials for the Winter Break Reading Challenge will be delivered to your classrooms this week.  Please be sure they are sent home with students, and that you encourage students to participate!  Last year we had 330 Bobcats participate in this reading challenge!
New this year, we are trying a shared photo gallery.  Please share this link with your families (it is also in the blog), and feel free to use it yourself!  You can also always text me a photo of yourself reading if that is easier.  Our students LOVE to see the teachers and staff reading!  I encourage ALL of you to send me a photo over break!!  https://photos.app.goo.gl/aEfTt5ovtRPtHlGi1
